Video of my set from Silky Love 2012

DJing has always been a passion of mine. The art of mixing 2 songs together to make one new song is something I have always appreciated. DJing runs in my family, as I have 3 cousins who are all well experienced DJs in their own respective fields. Having DJed for the past 12 years, Ive always felt that Ive lacked in certain types of skills. And that would be scratching. For those who dont know what scratching is, it is the art of manipulation sounds via vinyl records, and more recently mp3s. You scratch the record or mp3 back and forth to make a quick wiki sound, and from there you would add sounds over a song thats playing.

The best way to explain it is to show you a video.

Scratch Sample

I've recently been practicing scratching to play over my dj sets, as I feel it will add more excitement for myself, as well as the dance floor. Ill hopefully post video footage of me trying it soon!

Nothing beats being a lazy bum with my girlfriend.
Why have I not employed scratching in my sets before??? Oh well better late than never. Good night world!

My mind is visually scary

When I was young, I used to love watching movies with my family. Now these weren't just any normal family nights. Our movie nights consisted of watching such classics like Mondo magic, faces of death, and other gross shockumentaries. This affected me quite a bit growing up, as I've always been attracted to morbid types of things. This has translated into my vjing as well, as I love to play weird images on the screen. Ill try to upload some footage of what I mean.

What to play at Silky Love?

There are many factors that come into play when a DJ plays a set. One such factor is what genre you play. Another factor is the timeslot you are given, and usually that determines what kinds of tracks you are going to play, such as hard and energetic, or slow and chill. Also knowing what genres the djs before after you play is one of the most important factors of djing.

What does this all mean to me?

Nothing, as I’m going to play some very hard grimey breaks this Saturday at Silky Love!

Marketing class

I had marketing class today and boy do I feel sorry for him. My professor's class is pretty simple, as long as you do all your work. I'm not sure if it's due to my classmates just being tired at 8pm at night, but c'mon guys put some effort.

Silky Love is this Saturday and i'm very excited for that! I'll be playing nu-skool breaks, which is something most of the ravers are not familiar with. But alot of the tracks i'm planning to play, incorporates electro house elements into it. So they should be able to adapt. Being one of the few actual djs that play breaks in Hawaii, I hope the kids will love it!

Welcome to my world!

Man the weather here in Hawaii has really sucked as of late. The only great thing about this weather is i'm able to cuddle up with my girl friend.

My business class is tonight, and I must say that i'm doing very well in it.

Ill update my thoughts on what I feel about the rave scene in my next post. Until then, toodaloo!
