DJing and Technology

Mixing with vinyl is an art that seems to be fading with every year. With the creation of such DVS programs as Serato and Traktor, as well as the growing trend in the controller market, vinyl record popularity as a DJ medium has grown less. It is understandable though, as vinyl tends to be a bit pricey, especially compared to mp3s.

Even though I also use controllers and DVS formats, I always miss using vinyl. Nothing will ever beat the feeling of owning that white label that no one else has. The anticipation of waiting for your records to arrive in the mail. The feel and smell of fresh vinyl was to me comparable to smelling fresh roses in the morning. Having learned DJing on vinyl records will always be a skill that I will cherish, as nowadays it is rare to even see DJs play full vinyl sets. I may retire someday, but I will never get rid of my vinyl record collection.

Pablo in contemplation

Plur or Plurr? My thoughts on today's rave culture.

Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect. These four words were ingrained into my head in my early party days. They were a staple of the underground rave scene, a mantra for the many souls who partook in their weekly rituals of letting loose their stress filled weeks. Raves were a Mecca for all walks of life, and you could literally meet so many different types of people. Some notable people I have met at raves included priests, monks, house wives, grandmothers, generally people one would never expect to run into at an underground dance party. PLUR for me was the staple that binded all these various individuals into one complete book, for PLUR gave myself and others a culture commonality. At this time, the music was important but played the second fiddle in the grand scheme of the rave orchestra. It was a time, and definitely culture, that does not seem to exist anymore. The advent of the extra R, which stands for responsibility, seems to me to be an oxymoron, as there is hardly any responsibility when it comes to what raves have meant over the years. The inclusion of corporate sponsorships, the ever growing size of three day festivals, and the cookie cutter formulas of dance music nowadays, has destroyed what was once a scene that was about belonging. Instead it is now a scene about fitting in.

Fashion

So lately I have been a bit more fashion consciences, here is the style I am into!

It has been quite awhile.....

Hello everyone! It has been quite awhile since I have updated my blog, and with good reason. For the past year or so, I have been very busy finishing up my college courses. My specific major is Business Marketing. What I plan to do with the degree after I graduate is anybody's guess. I will create a post in the future when I actually do find a job.

In regards to DJing, I have taken a small break due to personal family illnesses, but don't worry, I will still occasionally update my blog with links to my mixes and music!

Hope all is well out the in the internet world, and be sure to keep an eye on my blog for future updates!
